Valsad,Gujarat: A consumer complaint filed before the Valsad District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has alleged medical negligence, improper treatment and excessive billing against the doctors and management of Mhasakar General Hospital in Valsad. The complaint has been filed by 20-year-old Misba Safan Memon, a resident of Tumb village in Umargam taluka, against Dr. Shailja Mhasakar, Dr. Abhijit Mhasakar and Mhasakar General Hospital.According to the complaint, the woman had been undergoing treatment at the hospital during her pregnancy. She alleged that during a check-up in January 2026, she was informed that the baby’s umbilical cord was entangled around the neck and that a Caesarean section was necessary to avoid a risk to the life of the mother or child. The complaint states that the family was initially informed that the total cost of the Caesarean procedure would be around ₹70,000, and an advance payment of ₹1 lakh was sought. However, after the delivery, the hospital allegedly issued a bill of ₹1,29,000 for four days of hospitalisation. The complainant further alleged that the Caesarean operation was performed through a vertical incision extending towards and above the navel. She claimed that the surgical stitches subsequently developed complications and that she continued to experience problems despite medicines prescribed by the hospital.According to the complaint, the woman later stopped treatment at the private hospital and sought further treatment at the Bhilad Community Health Centre (CHC) from February 24, 2026. She has alleged that doctors at the government facility treated the complications and changed the medicines prescribed earlier. The complaint also states that the woman’s father had earlier submitted a written complaint to the Chief District Health Officer and the Valsad Collector seeking an inquiry into the alleged treatment. According to the complainant, an inquiry committee was subsequently constituted, although she alleged that no appropriate action had been taken against the concerned doctors at the time of filing the consumer complaint. The complainant has claimed that a total of ₹1,86,705.48 was charged by the hospital and that she subsequently incurred approximately ₹35,000 in additional treatment expenses. She has alleged that the treatment caused her physical and mental suffering as well as financial loss.Through the consumer complaint, she has sought reimbursement of ₹2,21,705.48 with 10% interest, ₹25,000 towards litigation expenses and ₹4 lakh in compensation for alleged negligence, physical and mental suffering. The allegations are part of the consumer complaint and would be subject to examination by the competent authority/court.
